North America Electrical Team Joins Leading Industry Association OPEI
Membership gives Intertek the opportunity to share expertise with the Outdoor Power Equipment Industry
We are excited to announce that Intertek’s North America Electrical business has joined the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI). This dynamic alliance positions Intertek alongside industry leaders in power equipment, small engines, battery power systems, and UTV, golf car, and personal transport vehicle manufacturing and supply. OPEI’s members include major tool manufacturers and Intertek clients including Toro, Echo, Husqvarna, and Milwaukee Tool, and more. The organisation encompasses close to 95% of global manufacturing output for outdoor power equipment.
OPEI is an accredited Standards Development Organisation by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and a leader in educational services for the safe and proper operation of outdoor power equipment products across multiple power sources underscoring its leadership in promoting the safe and effective use of outdoor power equipment. With our membership, our team will bring cutting-edge scientific, technical, educational, and research expertise to the standards development and approval process, helping to maintain some of the 18 ANSI/OPEI safety-related standards which also include guidelines for EPA emissions certification.
Brad Affeldt, Global Director and Business Line Leader for Electrical, said:
“The global outdoor power equipment space, like many other appliance and tool categories, is poised for change. The electrification of the world movement is certainly providing some exciting opportunities for manufacturers, dealers, and end customers and we are delighted to join this critical organisation and to lend the global support of our world-class team of experts.”
Tim Corcoran, Vice President, Electrical and Connected World, USA and Canada, added:
“This category has experienced great strides in the integration of software, robotics, and autonomy into many products consumers and business owners utilise every day. As an OPEI member, Intertek is well-positioned to provide expert guidance in all areas of product development from safety and performance to cybersecurity and beyond.”
This involvement from Intertek will be led by the North America Electrical regional chief engineering team under Director of Engineering, Jim Deischer. Regional Chief Engineer, Hugo Lozano, and other Intertek experts will be joining several key standards writing committees and will contribute to the thought leadership objectives of OPEI for its members.
Congratulations to the North American Electrical team on this exciting journey with OPEI, making strides in innovation and excellence in the outdoor power equipment industry.
